Wednesday Gaming – MultiVersus Release, Studio Closure, Destiny 2 and MORE!
Catch up on the latest news, rumours and announcements from the world of video games, tech and entertainment:
– “Multiversus” is back! The official version of the crossover fighting game, which was rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5, is scheduled to release on 28 May 2024.
– Yet another gaming studio bites the dust: this time, it’s Deviation Games, which was founded in 2020 by veteran game developers Jason Blundell and Dave Anthony. The company’s closure was announced by Kriste Stull, the company’s head of HR, via a LinkedIn post.
– Prior to its closure, Deviation Games had partnered with Sony to develop an unnamed AAA game exclusively for the PlayStation 5. However, Sony – who are inducing cost-cutting measures in the form of employee lay-offs and project cancellations – are expected to cancel this game as well.
– Speaking of Sony, “Destiny 2” is partnering with Sony Pictures to release in-game cosmetics inspired by the upcoming flick, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire”. The cosmetics, which include a Slimer Guardian Ghost and an Ecto-1-themed ship, will be released next Tuesday, 19 March.
– Modiphius, a game publisher specialising in tabletop and RPG games, has plans to develop a tabletop RPG based on Terry Pratchett’s “Discworld” novels. It will initially be “set around the city of Ankh-Morpork and the wider Disc.” A Kickstarter campaign for the game is set to launch later this year.
Check in again next week for the latest video game news – ’til then, keep up the button-mashing!
